Gigabyte has made a name for itself as one of the worldwide leaders in motherboards, as well as having a significant presence in the case, graphics card, and power supply markets. However, one area that the company has yet to crack on a significant scale is the CPU cooling market.
It’s been slow progress for Gigabyte in the world of heatsinks, and we haven’t seen a Gigabyte cooler since last year when we reviewed the disappointing Gigabyte 3D Rocket II. Now though, we finally have a successor - the G-Power II Pro. Can this new cooler compete in the already crowded aftermarket CPU heatsink sector? We break out the digital thermometer and thermal paste to find out!

Unboxing the Powerrrr
As its key feature, the box makes a great deal of the cooler’s sloped fan design, with the cooler’s fan and chrome shroud clearly visible through a plastic surround. The box clearly lays out the cooler’s specification (although it doesn’t list the fan’s bearing type correctly), as well as warning any potential buyer that your case must be at least 200mm from CPU to case side in order to accommodate the tall cooler.Beneath the cardboard and plastic outer shell, the cooler is tightly stored in a foam prison to keep the fins nicely protected, while everything else is stored in a cardboard box to stop the bits bashing together in transit.

Included with the heatsink, we find a very comprehensive mounting kit that includes plastic washers, LGA775 and AM2(+) brackets, an AMD socket retention clip, a 5/12 volt 3 pin Molex cable, a lint free cloth for polishing that chrome dome and Gigabyte’s own thermal interface material. There’s also matching screws and screw nuts, rounding out everything that you’ll need to fit the G Power II, except for a screwdriver.
